Skin Care Tips for Winter

Emotions aren’t the only thing that changes its mood according to the weather, our skin too reacts to climate change. The winter season is especially a challenge for those who experience dry and flaky skin, this is usually the time when one needs to make a bigger fuss about taking care of their skin. There are many ways to do these, let us take a look at a few ways you can show how much you love your skin.

Skin care tips, winter season

1) Moisturize

Moisturize, moisturize and moisturize! Cannot exaggerate this point enough. After a hot shower or a bath, one must always moisturize to seal that dampness into the skin. Be generous when you apply creams and lotions, but always chose your moisturizer carefully. Some moisturizer with a petroleum-based ingredient might actually make your skin even drier. Choose an oil-based solution – such as lavender, chamomile, jojoba – as these are more likely to help your skin retain moisture in the winter. Moisturizing can help ease the sensation of dryness and itchiness on your skin.

2) Keep yourself hydrated

People usually tend to drink less water in the winter, when your body isn’t hydrated enough your skin doesn’t receive its required water level and hence dryness occurs. Make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Not only is it good for your skin but its beneficial for your whole body as well.

3) Petroleum Jelly

For dry skin, this is the easiest over the counter solution one can find and a quick remedy as well. Make sure you concentrate on areas such as your knees, elbows, feet, hands and lips; apply petroleum jelly in these areas before sleeping at night so your skin rejuvenates while you sleep.

4) Avoid Hot baths

Bathing in hot water can break down the lipid areas of the skin and hence can lead to moisture loss. A lukewarm bath is advised so as to avoid this from happening. If one suffers from very dry skin, adding baking soda or oatmeal can relieve your skin from flaking and itchiness.

5) Home-made face and body packs

Taking care of your face is essential as this area is the one which is the most exposed. Depending on your skin type, there are many face packs you can apply with ingredients that are found right in your home.
